Plumosa School of the Arts is an A-rated public K–8 arts school in Delray Beach, part of the School District of Palm Beach County, open since 1954. Its Choice programs combine a comprehensive visual, performing, and communication arts program with a K–5 Spanish Dual Language (two-way immersion) program. Students belong to "Art Houses" such as dance, theatre, band, strings, piano, vocal, visual arts, and TV production, and the school promotes S.T.A.R. citizenship: Self-Control, Teamwork, Active Citizenship, and Respect and Responsibility.

Programs & academics

Arts Choice Program (Visual, Performing, and Communications)

A comprehensive arts program where students develop through 2D and 3D art, television production, dance, strings, band, piano, percussion, vocal music, theatre, and the written word, with the goal that they "realize their full potential and become shining stars."

Art Houses of Plumosa

The school ties its Choice programs to its positive-behavior system through a House System: K–2 students explore every art area in the House of Prelim, then join houses such as Aasir (Dance), Kroma (Visual Arts/Digital Graphic Design/Digital Media), Liberte' (Television Production), Sonus (Band), Chopin (Keyboard/Piano), Charis (Orchestral Strings), Chanticleer (Vocal), and Loli'Ana (Theatre).

Spanish Dual Language (Two-Way Immersion)

A K–5 program using a 50-50 model: Language Arts and Writing are taught in both English and Spanish, Math in English, and Science/Social Studies in Spanish, so students become bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural.

Title I Schoolwide Program

Plumosa is a Title I school, with annual Title I meetings, a school-parent compact, and a parent and family engagement plan.

Recognition

  • 2025 Exceeding Expectations Award from the East Coast Technical Assistance Center (ECTAC) for progress in closing achievement gaps
  • Principal Ronda Smith received the 2025 Florida Alliance for Arts Education School Leadership Award
  • Keyboard/Piano students have performed at venues including Steinway and Merkin Hall in New York City, and at MTNA, CMS, and FMEA state conferences

Before & after care
An on-site district after-school program (2:30–6:00 PM) offers homework help, arts and crafts, cooking, a game room, and a computer lab. A separate free middle-school after-school program runs Monday–Thursday, 2:30–5:30 PM, with 30 seats filled first-come.
Dress code
Dress code required: any solid-colored collared polo shirt with khaki, black, or navy docker-style bottoms (no denim) and closed-toe shoes. On Fridays (spirit day), plain blue jeans may be worn with a school spirit shirt.
